Alta Via dei Parchi

Un lungo cammino nell'Appennino settentrionale

The book consists of a narrative reportage and high-quality pictures together with a rich and detailed technical section which will help us better visit the described places.

The Alta Via die Parchi has been financed by the Region Emilia-Romagna and by the Parks involved in this project: it is an extraordinary opportunity to know the beauties of the regional mountain parks. The Alta Via die Parchi starts in Berceto, near Cisa Pass in the Province of Parma, and after the Verna Rock protruding above the Casentino it reaches the hermitage on Carpegna Mountain, in the Parco del Sasso Simone e Simoncello.

A 27 stages itinerary across the Apennines among Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany and The Marches, which develops through 10 provinces ((Parma, Reggio Emilia, Modena, Bologna, Ravenna, Forlì-Cesena, Rimini, Lucca, Massa-Carrara e Pesaro-Urbino), 500 kilometers of uphill and downhill slopes connecting two National Parks, five Regional Parks and an interregional one. The authors of this publication, Mario Vianelli and Sandro Bassi, walk the whole way and tell us about the beautiful landscapes offered by mountains: cirques, immense high altitude grasslands, lakes, endless beech and chestnut woods, clear streams, volcanic rocks, gypsum cliffs and gullies. Their reports are enriched with high quality pictures and thorough analyses of the historical and environmental aspects.
In the second part of the volume they offer a detailed technical section with useful information for those who would walk the way: not only practical information describing itineraries' characteristics and the possibility to enter with the public transport, but also the description of the 27 stages, with topographic maps and information about the itineraries and the main connections with the localities near the apennine ridge. Furthermore you will find information about the structures (such as mountain huts, hostels, hotels, holiday farms…) which have been identified as accommodations and 8 descriptive sheets, one for each Park along the way.
Startin from Berceto, in the province of Parma you will see: the Parco nazionale dell'Appennino Tosco-Emiliano extending from the Parma area to that of Reggio Emilia; il Parco regionale delle Valli del Cedra e del Parma, comprising parts of the homonymous valleys and belonging to the previous one; il Parco regionale dell'Alto Appennino Modenese e il Parco regionale del Corno alle Scale extending over the eastern ridge. Near Bologna you will find the Parco regionale dei Laghi Suviana e Brasimone, in the Parco regionale della Vena del Gesso an extraordinary whole of gypsum rocks. Il Parco nazionale delle Foreste Casentinesi, Monte Falterona e Campigna embraces the ridge comprised between Tuscany and Romagna, while Parco interregionale Sasso Simone e Simoncello protects environments of great values such as one of the widest oak woods in Europe.
